Prof. Dr. Ar\u0131kan A\u00e7ar<\/strong><\/p><p><!-- \/wp:heading --><!-- wp:paragraph {\"align\":\"center\"} --><\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">Bodrum\/T\u00dcRK\u0130YE<br \/>(02-07 June 2024)<\/p><p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p><p><strong>DEADLINE FOR THE APPLICATION:\u00a010\u00a0May 2024<br \/><\/strong><\/p><p><em>Bodrum<sup>+<\/sup>\u00a0Institute<\/em>\u00a0will be organizing the Summer School for\u00a0\u201cCurrent Issues in Middle East Politics\u201d\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>02-07 June 2024<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Bodrum-T\u00fcrkiye<\/strong>, the place where history and contemporary Bodrum life are blended to create a perfect academic atmosphere. It is not surprising that Bodrum, with its archeological, historical, and natural beauties, has turned into a center of attraction that welcomes people from all corners of the world.<br \/><br \/><strong><u>Course Description<br \/><\/u><\/strong>This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of modern Middle Eastern politics. By looking at the critical historical turning points, as well as current developments and debates, the course aims to discuss the regional and international politics of the region. The course will focus on the Middle Eastern regional order, regional conflicts, alliances, wars, and peace-making as well as the state-society dynamics. The course will cover the Arab world, Iran, and Israel. This course is mainly for International Relations, Political Science, and Middle Eastern Studies majors and students of Social Sciences. Yet, there is no prerequisite for the course and students with different backgrounds can take the course.<br \/><br \/>The course is at the Master\u2019s level yet ambitious undergraduate students can take the course. PhD students are especially welcome as one-to-one office hours with lecturers can be arranged to discuss thesis work. All students must have sufficient English language level (B1). A list of required and suggested readings will be provided for students. The course will also discuss and use examples of literature, documentaries, and movies within the context of regional developments.<br \/><strong><u><br \/>Course Objectives<br \/><\/u><\/strong>The objective of this course is to provide students with the analytical perspective and essential knowledge to understand the major actors, issues, and processes of Middle East politics. The course aims to support the students in their academic work and further their research projects and ideas.<\/p><p><strong><u>Learning Outcomes<br \/><\/u><\/strong>By the end of the course, students will get acquainted with the major themes of Middle East politics which encompass a broad spectrum of discussions including state formation, war and conflict, political economy, identity, authoritarianism, and democratization as well as foreign policies of regional and extra-regional actors in the making of the Middle East.<\/p><p><strong><u>Assessment<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<br \/><\/strong>Students who prefer not to take the final assessment will not be given <strong>3 ECTS<\/strong> credits, instead, they will obtain a certificate of attendance, showing their participation.<br \/><br \/>For the Final Exam, each student will choose a subject and with the approval of the subjects and the content by the lecturer, you will need to submit a research paper and a video recording of yourself presenting this paper. The research paper and presentation will be submitted by\u00a0<strong>July 7th, 2024<\/strong>.<br \/><br \/><strong><u>Who Can Attend?<br \/><\/u><\/strong>The course is mainly at the Master\u2019s level. Moreover, undergraduate students or people who are interested in the topic can take the course.<br \/><br \/>To take part in the summer module, applicants must:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>be aged 18 or over at the time of the program start date,<\/li><li>have a university degree in a relevant field (3rd-4th year students currently enrolled in University\/College programs are also eligible on a merit basis),<\/li><li>English proficiency,<\/li><li>Master\u2019s or PhD students are encouraged to attend,<\/li><li>Yet, there is no prerequisite for the attendees who don\u2019t want to get
